If you want to learn to care for lithium-ion batteries, don’t miss this recommendation for the use and storage of this multipurpose device that we are approaching. Find out how to best treat lithium-ion batteries in a smartphone.
How to take care of the best lithium-ion batteries from a smartphone
The first thing you must remember is that batteries with these characteristics, if new, do not need to be fully charged before being used in equipment, nor do they need to carry out relevant calibrations.
On the other hand, you must remember that if you are going to charge the battery fully, this process will be more expensive if you do it with operating equipment than if you choose to do it when the equipment is completely dead. However, despite this recommendation, there is no need to turn off the equipment to charge the battery.
In the case of a 1-cell lithium power battery, you should know that the charging time ranges from 2.5 to 3 hours if what you want is to fully charge the battery, as long as the charging process is carried out at maximum voltage with the system dead.
Keep in mind that the nominal cell voltage is 3.6v or 3.7v according to the manufacturer, while the minimum voltage is 3.2v and the maximum voltage reaches 4.2v so that the charge in the work area is only one volt.
After the battery is fully charged, in this case, the 4.2v battery model, you should know that the current flow will stop thanks to the integrated protection circuit that is inside the battery and that is known as charge control. In this way, thanks to the protection circuit, the battery is prevented from being charged or emptied outside the safety limits. If this circuit fails and we try to charge the battery above 4.2v, it will be a danger because the equipment can explode.
On the opposite side, we find the effect that will occur if the battery runs below 3.2v. In this case, the terminal will stop recognizing it and therefore will not charge fees either. In addition, it must be remembered that when the battery is charged with active equipment, the battery indicator can give an incorrect charging rate by showing 100%, but then the charging rate is not like that, but it is much lower.
This usually happens especially with batteries that are in poor condition.
It must be taken into account that when the battery is experiencing a short and repeated charge and discharge process, there is an increase in inaccuracy between the battery charging status and the reading of the power meter. Lithium-Ion batteries can be charged before they are completely used up because they do not experience the effect of charging memory, or at least they do it in a way that is insignificant compared to other similar products.
It is recommended not to recharge the battery before losing 5% of its cost, saving you from unnecessary and dangerous costs due to temperature rise.
The life of a lithium-ion battery
Remember that each time the battery runs out and is recharged, the life span is shortened. We call that battery life which we ??measure in cycles. Usually, a 12V Lithium Battery has a life around 1000. The full charge cycle is to let the battery switch from 100% to 0%, to fully charge at a later time.
In the so-called “battery cycle”, not only the charge is taken into account, but also other factors such as the voltage used, or the temperature. In such a way that the most important thing is temperature because that could be one of the biggest causes of the deterioration in battery condition.
Another reason why we can shorten our battery life, in addition to overheating, is because chargers are damaged or don’t meet battery requirements.
